What is OGA
The OGA (Ogg Audio) file format is a free, open-source multimedia container developed by the Xiph.Org Foundation specifically for storing audio data. While you might be more familiar with its closely related sibling, `.ogg` (which is typically reserved specifically for Ogg Vorbis files), the `.oga` extension was created to distinctly identify Ogg containers that house other types of royalty-free audio codecs, such as FLAC (for lossless audio), Opus, Speex, or OggPCM. Because it is entirely unencumbered by software patents or licensing restrictions, the OGA format is highly favored by open-source advocates, game developers, and archivists for distributing high-fidelity audio, though it often requires dedicated, format-inclusive media players—like VLC—to play smoothly out-of-the-box on standard operating systems.
